18% of consumers can’t tell HD from SD TV
ByAccording to a survey conducted by the Leichtman Research Group (LRG) http://www.leichtmanresearch.com/index.html 18 percent of HDTV owners think they’re watching high-definition shows, when in fact they’re viewing standard definition programming. The survey also stated that while the number of HDTV households almost doubled in the past two years, it was largely the result of on-going consumer purchasing of TV sets coupled with a dwindling supply of lower-end non-HDTV sets being sold. So it seems, according to this survey at least, the viewing experience is not motivating people to purchase HDTVs when only 22 percent cited picture quality and 7 percent cited the quality/quantity of HD channels offered as purchasing motivators.
