Applicant Sought for Bismarck Human Relations Committee

BISMARCK, N.D. – Mayor John Warford is seeking Bismarck residents interested in serving a three year term on the Bismarck Human Relations Committee. The deadline for applications is July 30, 2010. The volunteer committee has one open position. Anyone residing in the City of Bismarck or the City’s extraterritorial area is eligible for appointment. The new committee member will be announced at the August 10, 2010, City Commission meeting.

The Human Relations Committee meets the third Monday of every month at the City/County Building. The committee has adopted a policy that four consecutive absences from meetings will result in a request for resignation.

The mission of the Mayor’s Human Relations Committee is to protect and promote the personal dignity of all Bismarck citizens and to eliminate any discriminatory barriers that prevent them from reaching their full human potential.

Interested Bismarck residents should send Mayor Warford a letter describing their qualifications, background, and why they would be interested in serving on the committee. Please visit www.bismarck.org and click on application. The letter and or application should be mailed to:

Voluntary Water Use Restrictions for Bismarck Officially End Mid-day June 30, 2010

Residents of Bismarck, the City of Lincoln and customers of the South Central Regional Water District served by the City of Bismarck are asked to continue to refrain from using water for anything but essential purposes until mid-day on Wednesday, June 30, 2010.

The treatment problems at the Bismarck water plant have been resolved and the plant is running at a capacity of 18 million gallons per day. This should be adequate to allow moderate irrigation use. Water reservoir levels are increasing and should be near their normal levels by mid-day Wednesday. Reduced water use the last several days has greatly assisted in helping to get the reservoirs refilled. Work is continuing to get the plant to full capacity.

Even though the request for restrictions has been lifted we urge citizens to use water wisely during the upcoming hot weather to avoid depleting the reservoirs.
• With the recent rains there should be adequate moisture in the root zone for most lawns.
• Please water only if there are signs that it is required. You can check your lawn by stepping on it. If the grass springs back when you lift your foot it does not need water.
• Please avoid running sprinkler systems when it is windy.

The City would like to thank its customers for their assistance in helping to
resolve this problem.
