Mandan City Commission Approves Downtown Retail and Restaurant Rent Subsidization Program for 2010

By

October 21, 2009 — The Mandan City Commission during its regular meeting held last evening approved a retail and restaurant rent subsidization program for 2010 aimed at securing new business concepts for downtown Mandan.

The program is intended to help fill vacant storefronts to create a more contiguous, complementary and stable retail district.

The program will use sales tax dollars to help new retail shopkeepers and restaurant owners pay rent for one year. Eligible and approved businesses will receive assistance for up to 50 percent of monthly rent, not to exceed $3 per square foot for retail or $5 per square foot for restaurants. There is an additional cap of $20,000 per property regardless of business type. Funding for the program is set at $60,000 for 2010.

The boundary for the program surrounds the downtown core area, including Main Street and First Street between Eighth Avenue NW and Sixth Avenue NE. A map, complete program guidelines and the application are posted at www.cityofmandan.com. For more information, contact the City of Mandan Business Development Office, phone 667-3485.

All applications are subject to review and approval by the Mandan Growth Fund committee and the Mandan City Commission.
