Morton County Shop Open for Sandbagging; Residents Urged to Sign Up for Emergency Calling System
The Morton County Emergency Management Office and City of Mandan want residents in low-lying areas to know sand bags are available today for pick-up between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. at the Morton County Highway Department located off of Old Red Trail at 2916 37 St NW in Mandan.
The combination of the potential for additional snowfall, warming temperatures, and continuing risks with ice jams may cause severe overland flooding in the coming week.
Residents along the Missouri River and Heart River are urged to be aware of weather and potential flood conditions and to take precautions to protect their property if they believe it could be at risk. This includes Georgianna’s Estates, River Place, the Schlosser subdivision on Willow Road, the Zachmeier subdivision, the Square Butte Creek area, Rock Haven Harbor, Hidden Acres, River Bend, Jetty Beach, and Tokach Timberhaven.
Morton County Emergency Management will be utilizing the City Watch reverse 911 phone calling system to alert residents in areas of risk if the situation worsens. If residents are uncertain whether their phone number is in the system database, they are urged to sign up by visiting the Morton County website at www.co.morton.nd.us. A link to the registration form is posted on the home page.
