Expressway Bridge Work to Begin Monday

By

Construction work will begin on the Bismarck Expressway Bridge over the Missouri River on Monday, July 6. The work consists of installing new expansion joints and a bridge deck repair to provide a new driving surface. Traffic across the Expressway River Bridge will be reduced to one lane of traffic in each direction during the repair work.

During construction:
-  A width restriction of 11 feet will be in place.

-  A signed detour for wide loads will be provided. The wide load detour will utilize the Memorial Bridge to cross the river, and then the wide loads will utilize Memorial Highway to Washington Street, then south on Washington Street to get back to the Bismarck Expressway.

-  Speed will be reduced to 45 mph, and at times, it will be reduced to 25 mph.

The work is scheduled to be completed by this fall.

Rear-end crashes are the most common in work zones. Motorists are encouraged to allow extra distance between their vehicles and the vehicles in front of them, use extra caution, and obey flaggers and posted signage.
