Second Chance Job Fair to Take Place April 30

Bismarck, N.D. – The Second Chance Job Fair will take place April 30, from 5:30 – 8:00 PM, at Job Service North Dakota, 1601 East Century Ave., and Bismarck. The Second Chance Job Fair is a project adapted under the North Dakota Transition from Prison to Community initiative and supported by state and local officials to facilitate an improved network of services in the community. “These services are designed to assist ex-offenders by decreasing barriers to employment and helping to make Bismarck-Mandan a better place to live by reducing crime and providing career opportunities for ex-offenders” said Marcus Roehrich, U.S. Probation Services. “The sense of pride and responsibility that accompany a good job is important to the continued mental and social well being of this unique population and reduces the likelihood of re-offending.”

According to Phil Davis, Job Service North Dakota, “The Second Chance Job Fair provides an opportunity to bring the target group of prospective employees in direct contact with employers that are aware of their status and willing to hire them. Employers may also benefit financially from employing individuals from this group as they may qualify for the Work Opportunity Tax Credit of up to $2,400 per hire”, said Davis.

“By working together, we have the opportunity to overcome misperceptions and to assist hard-to-employ people by providing new opportunities and expanding the pool of workers available to employers”, said Mayor John Warford. “Many individuals are returning to the community with marketable skills that will benefit area businesses and fill the high demand for loyal employees.” For more information call 701.328.5000.

City of Bismarck Seeks Public Input On Proposed Wind Turbine Ordinance

Bismarck, N.D.  — The City of Bismarck is hosting a public information meeting and is seeking input from businesses and citizens regarding the proposed Small Wind Energy Systems ordinance.  The proposed ordinance includes provisions for the placement and operation of small wind turbines for household use which are less than 25 kilowatts in capacity. A public meeting to provide information and seek public input will be held on Wednesday, May 6th from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the First Floor Meeting Room of the City County Building located at 221 North 5th Street in Bismarck.

The City of Bismarck does not currently have an ordinance which addresses the location, size or operation of small wind turbines. The proposed ordinance was motivated by requests from citizens who wish to erect small wind turbines. The purpose of the ordinance is to provide reasonable standards for small wind turbines and to minimize the potential for adverse impacts to neighboring properties.

On April 22nd the Bismarck Planning and Zoning Commission called for a public hearing on the proposed ordinance which is scheduled for May 27th at 5:00 p.m. in the Tom Baker Meeting Room at the City County Building located at 221 North 5th Street in Bismarck.

For more information and to view the proposed ordinance visit www.bismarck.org or call 701.355.1840.

LINCOLN ROAD REMAINS CLOSED

Bismarck, ND –Lincoln Road will remain closed until further notice.  Water is off the road making the road appear safe for travel; however, engineers have observed structural failures through the road base along several culverts.  Thorough inspection and repairs will take place after water recedes completely away from the road.
