Bismarck Mayor’s Prayer Luncheon To Be Held May 21st

May 15, 2009

Bismarck, N.D. – The annual Bismarck Mayor’s Prayer Luncheon will be held at 12:00 Noon, Thursday, May 21, 2009, at the Ramkota Hotel, 800 South 3rd Street, Bismarck.  The public is invited to attend.  The luncheon will feature special speaker Bishop Mark Narum, ELCA Lutheran Church.

“The Mayor’s Prayer luncheon is a benefit with the proceeds going to the Bismarck Law Enforcement Chaplaincy to support the tremendous, invaluable service that they provide to our citizens during some of the most difficult and grievous circumstances,” said Mayor John Warford.  “We are very fortunate to have the Chaplaincy with trained clergy that maintain around-the-clock availability for service to partner with officers and the community to assist citizens during times of crisis,” said Mayor Warford.   The Chaplaincy is also a resource for officers as they face stress while performing their duties.

The Bismarck Law Enforcement Chaplaincy is able to serve the community through the efforts and donations of sponsors. The Chaplaincy is a non-profit corporation.  Tickets for the luncheon are $20.00 and are available for purchase at the Rainbow Shop or by calling 355-1889 to reserve your ticket.  Ticket purchase deadline is May 18th.  For more information about the chaplaincy visit www.chaplainsnd.org

City of Bismarck Reminds Citizens About Control of Weeds and Tall Grasses

Bismarck, N.D.  -  Property owners are reminded that it is the property owner’s responsibility to cut tall grass and weeds growing on their property.  The city ordinance governing the control of tall grass and weeds was amended a few years ago and this notice is merely a reminder of the changes.  The ordinance requires at a minimum, all property shall be mowed by June 1, mowed again by July 15 and, if necessary, mowed again by September 1 of each year to comply with the provisions of this chapter.  The Environmental Health Administrator may order more frequent cuttings of tall grass and weeds if necessary for compliance with this chapter and such notice may be given in person, via telephone or by letter.  The ordinance still requires that tall grass and weeds 8 inches high be controlled.  Environmental Health will not be informing property owners to cut tall grass and weeds on their property unless additional control measures are necessary during the periods or dates specified in the ordinance.  You are urged to make arrangements for cutting tall grass and weeds prior to the dates identified in the ordinance.  In addition, the ordinance change will help keep the undesirable weeds and grasses from going to seed and become more manageable.  Property owners are urged to make preparations to control tall grass and weeds on your property to avoid charges for services provided by our office.

A copy of the ordinance is available on our website at: http://www.bismarck.org/city_departments/department/divisions.asp?dID=11&divID=128

If you have questions regarding this change, you may contact Mel Fischer at mfischer@nd.gov or by calling 701.355.1400.
