Community Access TV Channels Remain Valuable

November 29, 2008 by Dakota Media Access · Leave a Comment

Reports on the death of TV viewing are premature according to this latest report from the Nielsen Company.  Released on November 24th, the report has some particularly interesting info about the video viewing habits of the average person in the U.S.  Table 1 indicates Americans spend 143.5 hours/month watching TV at home while watching video on the Internet at home or office accounts for only 2.5 hours/month.  In other words, people watch video on their home TV nearly 60 times more often than they watch video on the Internet.

While Dakota Media Access will be “ramping up” over the next year to deliver more content via the Internet, our cable access channels clearly remain an incredibly valuable tool for delivery of our local programming.

Simle Middle School Art Students Enjoy Tour of Dakota Media Access

November 24, 2008 by Dakota Media Access · Leave a Comment

Kim Eslinger brought her art students to Dakota Media Access for a tour this morning.  The student learned a little about DMA’s role in the Bismarck and Mandan communities.

Following the brief discussion and tour of our control room, it was off to the studio for a little “hands on” work.  The students set up two different sets.  The first was for our in-house program Art View.  The second was the set for Live United.  Both shows are produced at the Dakota Media Access studio and air on Community Acccess, cable channel 12 in the Bismarck and Mandan area.  You can find a list of programs and schedules at our website.

Each student had a chance to be a host/guest, camera operator and some even sat in the directors seat and called the shots.  The students commented on how much fun it was including “this was one of our best field trips ever”.  We enjoyed having them in the studio.

We would like to thank Kim and her students for their attention and participation in this mornings activities.  We hope to someday see some original programming coming in the door for us to run on the air!
