Schuff Steel Actively Pursuing Wind Tower Manufacturing in Bismarck-Mandan
February 27, 2010 by Dakota Media Access · Leave a Comment
Schuff Steel Company, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Schuff International, Inc. (PINKSHEETS: SHFK),
continues to actively pursue the possible construction of a new wind tower manufacturing plant in North
Dakota. “After researching the renewable energy business in general, and specifically wind energy, we
are convinced that we are seeing the emergence of a new industry. Wind tower manufacturing appears to
be very synergistic with our core business of steel fabrication and erection”, said Dennis Randall,
executive vice president of Schuff’s Midwest Division. “We also feel that this new venture would require
construction of a dedicated plant in close proximity to developing markets”, he said.
After considering a number of sites, Schuff selected Bismarck, North Dakota as the location for the
potential plant. Plans would call for construction of a 200,000 sq ft facility on 70 acres, capable of
producing hundreds of towers annually. Schuff anticipates potential employment levels of 250 to 300
people once at full capacity. While there are a number of significant issues yet to be resolved, including
project financing and finalizing customer orders, Schuff hopes to begin construction of this facility
sometime within the year.
“I was very impressed with the business-friendly attitude of the Bismarck Mandan Business Development
folks, the accessibility and support demonstrated by State and local public officials and the excellent
technical educational facilities supporting renewable energy manufacturing”, said Randall.
Schuff’s proposed plant in North Dakota was recently selected as one of 133 projects eligible to receive a
federal tax credit as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) Section 48C Clean
Energy Manufacturing Tax Credit. This benefit has helped Schuff to forge ahead with their development
plans.

Spotlight North Dakota – Mosasaurs, Sharks, & Giant Squids: North Dakota’s Prehistoric Underwater World
February 26, 2010 by Dakota Media Access · Leave a Comment
Seventy-one percent of the world is currently covered by water. However, North Dakota is about as far away from oceanic waters as any land mass can be. But, this is not the way the world always has been. State Paleontologist, Dr. John Hoganson, from the North Dakota Geological Survey, talks about the animals that used to live in North Dakota in past times when the state was covered by water.

March 9 Info Session Planned to Encourage Candidacy
Mandan and Morton County residents invited to learn about a run for local government offices
The Leadership, Pride & Image Committee (LPI), of the team implementing the Mandan Tomorrow strategic plan, is conducting a candidate prep course. Intended to provide information about elected, public-service positions and to encourage candidacy, the Candidate Information Forum will occur from 7-8:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 9 at the Mandan Community Center.
“Mandan is a city known for its community support,” said LPI Committee Chairwoman Laurie Leingang. “The Candidate Information Forum is just one way that we can support individuals interested in running for public office.”
Forum attendees will have the opportunity to hear about the various positions, determine if a public-service stint is something they should pursue and learn about the requirements to file for candidacy. Presenters include current elected officials. Anyone interested in running for a position on the Mandan Public School Board, Mandan Park Board, Mandan City Commission or Morton County Commission should attend.
The forum is free and sign-up is not required. If you have any questions, please contact Laurie Leingang at 400-8631 or leingangl@bis.midco.net.
The LPI committee is charged, among other things, with fostering citizen interest in serving in local government offices. For more information on the Mandan Tomorrow Plan, visit www.mandanvisionplan.com.
