Mary Tello-Pool

Mary Tello-Pool, volunteer host of LIVE UNITED, has been an active volunteer in the Bismarck-Mandan community for over 35 years. She has served as a board member for several state and local non-profit organizations, as well as chairman for numerous fundraising events. Mary was recently elected to the National Council of State Boards of Nursing and is serving her 8th year as a board member on the North Dakota Board of Nursing. She is also a current board member for the West Dakota Chapter Red Cross and the Bismarck Mandan Symphony League.
Mary has been involved in disaster preparedness and response for 12 years and is a member of the Burleigh-Morton Red Cross Disaster Action Team. She is currently employed as a contract Emergency/Disaster Preparedness and Response Planner. She writes plans and recruits, trains, and coordinates volunteers for emergency and disaster preparedness.
Mary is a nurse volunteer for the American Red Cross as well as the North Dakota Medical Reserve Corps and is an American Red Cross certified instructor for several disaster and health/safety courses. Mary has level IV certification in Homeland Security by the US Department of Homeland Security.
Little known facts about Mary:
- Mary is a very proud 3rd generation North Dakotan. In her “younger” days she represented North Dakota in several national pageants, including Mrs. America, Ms. USA and Mrs. United States!
- Enjoys reading, music, art, camping and hunting. Mary is currently enrolled in a PhD program where she is pursuing a doctorate degree in Psychology.
- Her greatest contributions to society are her two daughters, Christina a physician and Deanna a wildlife biologist. Mary is married to Dr. Duane Pool, a Science Coordinator for the Nature Conservancy.
- Her pets include: Budda and Keanu, and her grand-pups include: Caesar, Zeke, Allie, and Sunny.
